A trader was killed in an attack by unknown gunmen in Duk Padiet County of Jonglei State on Thursday, a local official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Acting County Commissioner, Elijah Manyok said the incident took place when eight traders travelling from Duk Payuel County to Duk Padiet County were ambushed by armed men.

“This incident happened on Thursday morning. There were 8 cattle traders from Poktap town coming to buy cows in Duk Padiet, but while on their way they were ambushed and one of them was killed,” he explained.

“According to the traders, those attackers are from neighboring Fangak State,” he added.

However, the local official said no arrests have been made so far.

Officials from Fangak State could not immediately be reached for comment.
