Torrential rains hit Sennar state

Heavy rains and floods hit Sudan’s Sennar state destroying property in the southern neighborhoods of Senja town.

Activists criticized the state government’s reluctance to anticipate this year’s rainy season, saying the heavy rains resulted in the spread of water borne diseases.

El Mahi Mohammed Suleiman, a resident in Sennar, told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that the heavy rains caused huge damage to properties and the spread of malaria and typhoid.

El Mahi said that water has accumulated due to poor sanitation and drainage causing deteriorating environmental and health conditions.
