Torit Town wildfire kills woman

A 75-year-old woman identified as Clementina Ileyo, who was critically injured by a wildfire in Torit Town in Eastern Equatoria State, has died.

Ileyo and her grandson were reportedly scorched while riding on a motorcycle.

The woman died at the Torit State Hospital on Saturday.

The Fire Safety and Disaster Management Officer, Lt Kennedy Khamish, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that Ileyo died on Saturday morning

He said she died while being attended to at the Torit State Hospital.

Torit State Hospital Health Officer Changa Thomas Oker confirmed the incident.

Oker said Ileyo was in a bad state and several attempts by the medical staff to save her failed.

The Chairperson for the Eastern Equatoria State Women Led Network, Davidika Ikai, expressed shock at the incident and conveyed her condolences to the bereaved family.

She appealed particularly to motorbike users to take precautions on the road.
