Torit state transitional legislative assembly reopened on Monday, after a three-month long recess period.
While addressing the opening of the 3rd session, the state governor Tobiolo Alberio Oromo underlined insecurity as the main challenge ahead of them.
He also stated that the government is expected to embark on development and peace implementation.
“Peace also comes with its challenges of reconstruction and hard work. The government shall embark on developmental activities based on state priorities. These are some of the activities we want to carry out but there has been interference with this issue of criminals,” he added.
Oromo acknowledged that criminal activities are on the rise in the state. He said a group of Catholic priests was ambushed and their property looted along Torit -Kapoeta Road by unknown gunmen last week.
For his part, assembly speaker Charles Odwar Ukech urged the executive, judiciary, and legislature to work together for service delivery.
He further assured citizens that issues pertaining to them will be prioritized and deliberated upon.
“I am fully aware of various needs of our citizens that need to be met. I want to state that those needs will be focused on, analyzed and scrutinized during the presentation of the policy statements of the various government spending agencies,” Udwar said.
According to the speaker, the assembly will focus on the presentation of the 2018/19 fiscal budget, presentation of the government policy statement, presentation of recess reports and dissemination of the revitalized peace deal.
