A lawmaker who represented Kidepo Valley County in South Sudan’s Torit state legislative assembly has died.

Major Gen. Cosmos Aziz Attari, 75, died in the capital, Juba Sunday.

He was a member of Sudan People’s liberation Movement (SPLM).

Caesar Oliha, a family member, said Aziz died of malaria.

Oliha described the fallen legislator as a great man who positively contributed at both community and government levels.

The deputy governor of Torit, Margret Itto Leonardo declared that the state flag be lowered in honour of the late Aziz across the state.

She urged the family of the deceased to be strong and put faith in God.

“This day and the past days are bad days to us in the state. The whole state is in the funeral. As government, we request that the flag of the state be lowered in all the 12 counties of the state”, said Itto.

“Because we have lost a great man in the state, even to get a replacement for his position is a problem,” she stressed.

Aziz had served as a member of parliament in Torit since 2015.
