The Torit municipal council said security forces are investigating the killing of a woman using a military bayonet knife at the Iluhum residential area of Torit town on Saturday.
Mustafa Albino Zacharia, Mayor of Torit Municipal Council, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the security forces in Torit town found a dead body of a woman lying on the ground on Saturday morning. He added that the forces are currently investigating the incident to identify the perpetrator.
“At around 6 pm on Sunday, a woman was found killed in Iluhum there and nobody in the area was able to identify her. She was killed with a military bayonet knife,” Albino said.
“We took the body to the doctor for post-mortem. We are going to search for the suspect and this suspect is a person holding a gun,” he added.
Meanwhile, Eastern Equatoria State Police Commissioner Major General James Monday Enoka Commissioner confirmed the incident, saying investigations into the killing of the unidentified woman is underway.
“Our forces visited the crime scene and investigations into the incident are underway,” he said.
Ikalwa Amaring Rose, a civil society activist in Eastern Equatoria State, expressed sadness over the incident, calling on the government to thoroughly investigate and bring the perpetrator to book.
She added,” It is very bad. The government has to intervene in the matter, investigate the incident and identify the family of the deceased.”
