Torit parliament to reopen on 15 November

South Sudan’s Torit state legislative assembly will reopen on 15th November 2019, according to assembly officials.

South Sudan’s Torit state legislative assembly will reopen on 15th November 2019, according to assembly officials.

In a notice seen by Radio Tamazuj, the assembly clerk Adelio Kau Kawa said the parliament was supposed to open last Friday on 8th November but due to unforeseen circumstances, it had been adjourned to 15 November.

Torit MPs went on a three-month recess in June, but until now, they have not resumed.

Torit state legislative assembly speaker Charles Udwar Ukech said according to a letter they received, the delay has been caused by a lack of funds.

“Well, we are more than 4 months on holiday. We are supposed to open on the 16th of September. Let me assure you that the parliament will be opened on the 15th as scheduled,” Udwar confirmed.

The delay has brewed controversies by MPs with others fearing that the recent political changes may further delay the reopening of the parliament.
