The county commissioner in Torit County in Eastern Equatoria State has denied reports that law enforcement have arrested suspects involved in a grenade bombing of a nightclub a week ago.
After the nightclub attack Eastern Equatoria State has temporarily banned nightclubs as a security measure and offered a bounty of up to 100,000 SSP for the capture of the perpetrators of the attack.
On Friday the state police commissioner was quoted in local media as saying that a number of suspects were arrested and were being investigated.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Torit County Commissioner German Charles said: “These claims are untrue. What I want to confirm is that the investigation is underway, but we haven’t yet got any information leading to the arrest of the suspects”.
The official asserted that the security operatives are working tirelessly to apprehend the criminals. He added that the local authorities are carrying out what he termed as a “random investigation.”
“We are investigating youths and women who are staying close to the area where the incident occurred. That’s why we cannot come to the conclusion that they are the ones,” he explained.
The county commissioner also noted that the security situation is normal.
