Torit town municipality on Monday issued an order banning what it called ‘the uncontrolled’ roaming of pigs and donkeys in the town.
Mayor Juliana Momoi Choho announced the order on the state-owned radio.
“No pigs or donkeys shall be allowed to roam and loiter unnecessarily within Torit Municipal Council. Two, anyone who rears pigs or donkeys must control his or her possessions by confining these animals within kraals that can easily be managed,” she said.
She further ordered the arrest of the owners of animals found loitering in town as well as confiscation of the animals.
Torit municipality deputy mayor for land affairs Mr. Dominic Safari Aliardo told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the order follows complains that the pigs and donkeys stray into people’s farms, destroying their crops.
“It came as a result of claims that the pigs in Torit town are destroying the farms of the people that is why the leadership of the municipality came with this order to rescue farms,” he said.
Safari claimed that the municipality had met pig farmers three months ago and advised them to keep them enclosed.
