The governor of Torit State, Tobiolo Alberio Oromo has sacked the deputy mayor of Torit municipality for land affairs.

The removal of Deputy Mayor Dominic Safari came in a decree read on the state-owned radio on Wednesday morning.

The decree, which went into effect on May 14, gave no reasons for the deputy mayor’s removal.

Safari was appointed the deputy mayor for land affairs in Torit municipality in 2017 and tasked to oversee land issues in town.

In recent months, however, Torit town has been facing land conflicts.

Last month, a young man who was part of the team surveying Morwari residential area, sustained injuries after he was beaten by a group of youth claiming ownership of the same town land.
