The governor of South Sudan’s Torit state Tobiolo Alberio Oromo ordered cattle herders to move their cattle from Nimule corridor immediately.
In a press statement on Thursday, Governor Tobiolo said the government had requested all cattle owners in Nimule to move their cattle out of the area to allow farmers to cultivate.
‘We have given them enough time and because of this enough time nobody will be blamed because we need the cattle keepers to go,”he said.
He pointed out that Wildlife officers will be deployed to protect all farmlands in the area, while warning that cattle keepers will face action from the authority of they refuse to move out of the area.
‘’Soon I will be moving to Nimule and I have all the detailed lists of those cattle keepers. I will go to Nimule then we will call them and if there is any resistance, then appropriate measures will be taken,” he stressed.
The top state official hinted at challenges that could hinder the implementation of the order, citing intermarriages between the herders and the host community in Nimule.
