Torit government mourns parliamentarian

South Sudan’s Torit state government Monday declared two days of mourning to honor the Member of Parliament Agnes Lox who died last Saturday in Torit town.

South Sudan’s Torit state government Monday declared two days of mourning to honor the Member of Parliament Agnes Lox who died last Saturday in Torit town.

Agnes Lox was an SPLM Women League Member of Parliament representing Ikwoto county since 2010. She has also served as the chairperson for the specialized committee for health and environment at Torit Transitional Assembly.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Torit state spokesperson Margaret Idwa Okuye said honorable Lox died after a short illness and was buried on Sunday at her residential house in Torit town

“We have lost a mother, a sister, a person who was so valuable in our society, in our community, in our country in our state. With that the head of the state declared two days mourning starting from today Monday and Tuesday. The executives are given two days then on Wednesday both the August house and the executives will resume their normal duties,” she said.

Idwa added that all flags in the state will fly half-mast.

She eulogized the late as a woman who played a big role in advocating for women rights in the country.
