A large number of families from Torit town and other parts of Imatong State are crossing to Kenya’s Kakuma refugee camp due to insecurity and food shortage, several citizens said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, several citizens voiced concerns about the ongoing insecurity in Yei town and various areas in the Equatoria region, saying fighting could erupt at any time in Torit town and its surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, multiple sources in Kakuma camp confirmed that many families from South Sudan are arriving in the camp daily.

Separately, local residents in Torit town said that that the governor of South Sudan’s Imatong State Nartisio Loluke decided to replace SPLA forces deployed in Loluri area located 9 miles from Torit town with police forces.

They claimed that the move came after the SPLA force in the area was accused of attacking a vehicle carrying footballers along the Juba-Torit road last week.
