Authorities in South Sudan’s Torit State said they arrested people suspected to have been involved in violent clashes that occurred in March between two communities from Lapon and Torit counties.
At least 20 people were killed during inter-communal clashes between the Otuho community from Logiri area and the Pari community from Pachidi area over cattle raids.
Torit County Commissioner Fermo Peter told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that 11 suspects were arrested over the tribal clashes.
"The suspects were identified by officials from the Otuho community from Logiri as being involved in the killings, and we are now investigating them," Fermo said.
The local official said they are still searching for suspects identified from the Pari community.
"One of the biggest challenges facing the authorities in the state is the citizens’ rejection of advice,” he said.
Incidents of cattle raids have increased in recent months in many parts of the country, with cattle raiders killing people and burning property.
