The commissioner of Tonj South County in Warrap State is reportedly on the run after he shot and injured a national security officer on Friday, sources reveal.
According to multiple sources, Commissioner Agor Malang Agor, shot John Emilio Khasid in the leg after the former was called in to deal with a drunken altercation the security officer caused at Lakhan Hotel in Tonj Town.
Eyewitnesses say the security officer refused to be disarmed and disparaged the commissioner for being a “mere civilian” who he could not take orders from. Commissioner Malang then drew his pistol and shot Emilio in the leg. The commissioner’s bodyguards discharged bullets in the ensuing melee.
The Warrap State information minister, Ring Deng Ading, confirmed the incident and said the commissioner run to Thiet town but that authorities are investigating the matter.
“I spoke to the authorities in the county and the security advisor is on the ground and he told me that the incident happened but he is not sure whether the commissioner is the one who was involved in the shooting but he (commissioner) is supposed to be a suspect along with his bodyguards,” Minister Deng said. “As of now, the commissioner is not in the county headquarters, he went to Thiet.”
He added: “The security advisor spoke to the acting governor to control the situation in Tonj and the situation is now normal.”
The minister said the police are investigating who exactly discharged bullets in the fracas and that the injured security officer was taken to Juba for treatment.
“The victim was taken to Juba. He is in a coma because he was shot with three bullets, one in the chest, the other in his arm, and another on the leg,” he said.
Minister Deng urged the public to remain calm.
