The governor of South Sudan’s Tonj state Akec Tong Aleu has accused the coordinator of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) of mismanaging humanitarian affairs in the state.

The governor of South Sudan’s Tonj state Akec Tong Aleu has accused the coordinator of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) of mismanaging humanitarian affairs in the state.

In a letter dated 28 June and addressed to the national minister of humanitarian affairs, Governor Akec Tong accused Moses Athian of involving himself in recruitment and shortlisting of job seekers and applicants.

The state official also accused the relief coordinator of lack of cooperation. “This RRC official was also appointed by Juba directly without consultation from state authorities.  I think he can work with directives from state authorities which is undermining the supremacy of decentralization policy enshrined in Chapter iii, Article 47,48,49 [ i] of transitional constitution of the Republic of South Sudan,” Governor Tong said in his letter.

Tong said he is in charge of overseeing that all state affairs run smoothly and that he advised that the RRC chairman is relieved of his duties allegedly for causing insecurity among the people of Tonj.

“Failure to do so the state will not be responsible for any circumstances which may lead to his security in the state if he continues to be in RRC state office,” said Akec.

The RRC coordinator could not immediately be reached for comment.
