Tonj parliament approves three positions allocated to SPLM-IO

Members of the Tonj State Assembly on Thursday approved three key positions allocated to the SPLM-IO faction led by the country’s First Vice President Taban Deng as part of peace implementation, according to a lawmaker in the state.

The 2015 peace agreement allocates 15% of representation in each of the states in Equatoria and Bahr el Ghazal regions to SPLA-IO.

 Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Tobby Mawuen Yuot, Deputy Speaker of the Tonj State Legislative Assembly, said they approved three senior positions to be given to the SPLM IO faction led by Taban Deng.

He explained that the three positions include the state minister of gender and social development, advisor on humanitarian affairs and chairperson for disarmament, demobilization and integration commission.
