Citizens in Tonj North County of South Sudan’s Warrap state have demanded that government institutions increase salaries amid complaints of rising prices of consumer goods.

Justin Kur, a civil servant, told Radio Tamazuj his monthly salary is only 561 SSP so he cannot meet his family’s demands amid the rising price of goods.

“The price of a sack of flour 50Kg is 1400 SSP and a sack of maize has reached 2800 SSP, whereas a sack of onion is 2300 SSP,” he said.

He added that his salary cannot buy a half sack of maize.

Kur called on the government to increase salaries of public employees to cope with the soaring prices.
