Muslims in Tonj State today morning celebrated the most holy day of the Islamic calendar, Eid al-Adha with calls on the government to allocate a piece of land to build a mosque in the state.
Leaders of the Muslim community said several requests to the state government for land allocation have not yield fruits.
Nedi Omer, a member of South Sudan’s Islamic Council in Tonj, said mosque is significant for their interaction with God.
“Deputy Governor the problem of mosque is very important to us. The mosque is a place of apology, forgiveness and prayers. If you have any problem, and you can ask your God through this mosque, so your approval is very important for us,” he said.
The deputy governor of Tonj State, Manhiem Bol Malek, said the state government will soon address the matter while calling for patience among Muslim community in Tonj.
