The minister of finance in South Sudan’s Tonj State has urged the state transitional legislative assembly to pass the taxation bill that would harmonize the collection of revenue across the state.
James Gabriel Khamis said made the remarks on Tuesday as he presented his ministry’s work plan to Tonj Transitional Assembly.
He said that the law will provide a first step towards establishing guidelines and principles to govern revenue collection, controls and utilization mechanisms.
Gabriel said once the bill is passed into law, it will enhance collection of revenues and redistribution of collected revenues. He added that it will also prevent the illegal collection of revenues by unauthorized institutions.
“Some of the organized forces have decided to have their offices in Makuei along Wau road that side collecting taxes illegally without any document. Where is this collection going to, we don’t know? It doesn’t come to the government,” he said.
The assembly is expected to go through the bill and deliberate on the work plan before they pass it into law.
