Leaders of the Tonj communities of southern Warrap State last week resolved that the state capital Kwajok should either be transferred elsewhere or else that their area should be upgraded to the status of a separate state.
The community leaders were meeting at a reconciliation conference in Kanaf in Tonj South County.
According to the outcome document of the conference, participants cited the remoteness of Tonj from the state capital as a factor in prevailing insecurity.
“Due to vastness of [greater] Tonj and to curtail rampant insecurity, the community requests government either to make state capital rotational or create an independent state for the people of Tonj,” reads one resolution.
