The governor of Tonj state Akech Tong Aleu has warned newly appointed county commissioners against illegal household tax after citizens complained of unauthorized household taxes imposed on them by county officials.

The governor said his government has not approved any household tax, pointing out that the commissioners who are collecting household tax will be held accountable.

Governor Akech called on all county commissioners to abide by the local government law as they establish and administer their respective new counties.

Akech also urged the county commissioners not to interfere with the judicial system in their counties. Tong pointed out that the judiciary is independent and must be allowed to carry out its mandate without interference.

The governor was speaking on Thursday last week after swearing-in new county commissioners.
