The Governor of Tonj state, Akech Tong Aleu, has ordered the release of two senior members of the ruling SPLM party who were detained for more than six months without any charges.

Andrea Kuach and William Wol were arrested in July 2016 for allegedly meeting the former first vice president and rebel leader Riek Machar in Juba.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Kuach said they were not told why they were arrested and detained but he suspects it was because of a meeting they had with the former first vice president Riek Machar when he returned to Juba to implement the peace agreement.

“The governor only told us to come out and we will go and talk at the SPLM office where we expect him to tell us the reason why we were detained and we will also tell them our story,” said Kuach.

“The meeting has not yet been fixed because I heard the governor is going to Jub. Once he is back, the meeting will take place. We want to know why and the people also want to know why were detained,” Kuach added.
