Tonj governor appoints two opposition officials as part of peace implementation

The Governor of Tonj State, Akec Tong Aleu, has issued executive orders appointing two officials from the SPLM-IO faction allied to the incumbent First Vice President, Taban Deng Gai, to serve in his government as part of peace implementation.

The 2015 peace agreement allocates 15% of representation in each of the states in the Equatoria and Bahr al Ghazal regions to SPLM-IO.

Governor Akec Tong Aleu named Mabil Ater as the new minister of social development and Malual Akot Majuol as advisor on humanitarian affairs.

Commenting on the appointments, Ramzi Matueny Muorwel, who is a member of the political bureau of the SPLM-IO faction under Taban, welcomed the two gubernatorial decrees.

He urged his colleagues to work together with the state governor to implement his security and developmental programs in the state.

“I am using this opportunity to congratulate our brother Maj. Gen. Akec Tong Aleu, Governor of Tonj State on his wisdom and responsibility to appoint Comrade Mabil Ater as minister of social development and Comrade Maluak Akot Majuol as adviser on humanitarian affairs,” he said.

 “The two gentlemen are privileged to work with such an enthusiastic young governor to deliver the services to the people of the stare. I urge them to faithfully discharge their duties and appropriate energy to help in the implementation of the governor's developmental and security programs in the State, “he added.
