Tombura State has closed its border with the Democratic Republic of Congo to prevent the spread of Ebola, officials said on Friday, highlighting fears of further contagion in the neighboring country after at least two deaths and a further 29 suspected cases had been reported.
Lino Utu, deputy governor of Tombura state, told Radio Tamazuj that the state government had sent orders to the commissioner of Ezo County to close land crossings with Congo.
He further said they will ask the World Health Organization (WHO) to visit the area in the coming few days.
Elsewhere in neighboring Gbudue state, health minister Hussein Enocka said his ministry has taken measures to prevent the spread of Ebola.
