TNLA member from Mayom County condemns repeated ambushes, killing of innocent people

A member of the National Legislature representing Mayom County has strongly condemned the killing of an innocent person in a recent ambush and attempted abduction in Riaah Payam in Mayom County on 24 December by armed bandits believed to have come from Warrap State’s Tonj North County.

Hon. Samuel Mabany Gatjiek said the incident left one person dead while the rest were rescued by the youth from Mayom County.

“I am writing to express my profound sorrow and outrage over the tragic ambush that recently took place in Riaah Payam of Mayom County for the third time which resulted in the senseless and brutal killing of one innocent man called Maliny Yuonom Dorgu who was transporting women and children who were severely affected by the outbreak of cholera to seek treatment Mankien Payam,” he wrote. “These innocent women and children were being transported through Naam River where criminals repeatedly ambush people in the same place where they abducted 9 family members from Pech Mayang Luach and 6 children murdered in cold blood while their mother and two children survived last year on Christmas eve.”

“Nothing was done by the Warrap State government and the former governor who received survivors from the criminals and these horrific acts of violence have left families devastated, communities shattered and mourning from continuing attacks and killings by criminals coming from Warrap State,” Mabany added.

He said there is no justification for the deliberate targeting of innocent lives and that the perpetrators of these senseless attacks have demonstrated a complete disregard for human dignity, peace, and the sanctity of life.

“Such acts of continuous murdering with impunity by our neighbors from Warrap State not only cause immense suffering for the victims and their families but also undermine the values of justice, peace, and humanity that we must all work to uphold,” the legislator wrote. “In this moment of grief, we must stand united in our condemnation of those violent acts and demand justice for all the victims. The authorities from both states must conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to take those responsible to account to prevent such atrocities like revenge killing from occurring in the future.”
