TNLA adjourns sitting over power disruption

The Transitional National Legislative Assembly on Monday postponed its regular sitting No.23 after its generator experienced a severe fault.

The August House was supposed to deliberate on the National Bureau of Statistics Bill 2024 which was to be tabled by the Committee of Finance and Economic Planning for the third and final reading.

However, Oyet Nathaniel Perino, the First Deputy Speaker of the TNLA, who was presiding announced that the House would not be able to proceed with the sitting due to the power failure.

He revealed that the generator which normally powers the House developed mechanical issues and that the backup could not supply enough power to operate the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) equipment.

“We have a lot of inconveniences this morning, and as you can see, our technology is down. The ICT is not functioning because of the power supply disruptions which we have experienced,” Oyet said. “Our main generator is down and the generator that is being used now is small, which cannot power all our systems.”

The deputy speaker decided to adjourn the sitting to give time for the administrators to work on the generator.

“The ICT Department keeps the records of all that we do in the sittings, it is also hot inside here and I believe that the [small] generator may also not go on for long and will go off anytime,” he stated, and ruled: “So, in the view of this, I have the single honor to adjourn the sitting.”

Oyet assured the legislators that the main generator would be fixed by the end of the day.
