Tonj North police say three women were shot and killed in Akop Payam on Sunday.

Head of police John Gabriel Deng says a manhunt is underway after the women were killed by unknown gunmen.

A radio station in Warrap reported that five people were killed last Thursday and ten were injured in the same area.

“These were just women who went to cultivate, so when they were ready to go back home from their gardens, they were just shot dead by unknown armed men. These problems have been happening since last year and it is now still continuing,” said John.

The police official is appealing to state authorities to deploy more police.
