Three Sudanese soldiers were captured after a brief exchange of fire at the border of Upper Nile State. Manyo County Commissioner Al-Tayeb Ajak said that the captured men were all non-commissioned officers and have been transferred to the state capital Malakal.

“Before three days a reconnaissance vehicle belonging to the Sudanese forces entered our territory through Kohla area and our forces in the border stopped them but they refused to stop the vehicle. Then our forces have pursued them on three vehicles leading to an exchange of fire between them,” he said.

In an interview with Radio Tamazuj the commissioner explained that the men claimed to have strayed into South Sudan accidentally after having lost their way.

“Our forces managed to arrest three of the NCOs who were in the vehicle. We transferred them from the military barracks here and then to state military HQs in Malakal town,” the commissioner noted.

The commissioner also commented on recent allegations of incursions by the Sudanese army into Kuek region. He denied this and said the Kuek region was stable.
