At least three people, including a police officer, were reported killed in revenge killings in Cueibet County of South Sudan’s Lakes State on Monday.
Colonel Machar Muorwel Madol, the Acting Police Commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj that the incident occurred because of unresolved disputes between the Ayiel, Wat and Kongor sections in the county.
According to the police officer, the Kongor and Wat sections accused the Ayiel of involvement in the killing of their people.
Muorwel identified those killed as First Lieutenant Athian Theem, Tutpuou Mamer Malok and Mabil Marial Mading. He said police authorities are pursuing the perpetrators to bring them to book.
"We are urging community chiefs and relatives of the suspects to cooperate with the police in the investigation process,” said Madol.
According to the police officer, tension is high and the security situation is tense.
He appealed to the state government to urgently send forces to help defuse tension in Cueibet.
