Authorities in Malek County in Western Lakes State said three people were wounded when a vehicle they were traveling in came under attack by unidentified gunmen on Monday.
Malek County Commissioner Sunday Ater told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that three civilians, including a pastor and a teacher, were wounded in the attack. He further said the incident took place near Manyjong village.
Commissioner Ater identified the wounded priest as Nicodimos John Maker from the Episcopal Church.
Ater pointed out that the wounded people were taken to Rumbek Hospital for treatment. He noted that no arrests have been made so far. “The armed men are not known but youth from Gok State are being accused of involvement in the attack,” he said.
The local official has asked local youth in his county to be at the forefront in spearheading peace among communities living in the region.
