Three soldiers were killed and three wounded during a shooting incident at the Giyada barracks in Juba where dozens died in another gunfight on Wednesday.
Multiple sources confirmed that the three were killed when soldiers fired at each other, but the cause of the incident was not clear.
At least one of those involved and one of the dead is a member of the Tiger Division, the presidential guards. Radio Tamazuj has withheld his name in case next of kin have not yet been informed.
Meanwhile, the total death toll from the clashes Wednesday is not yet clear, as new information continues to emerge.
An army spokesman initially said five soldiers were killed. Yesterday he revised the number upward to 25, while other government officials separately in a briefing to diplomats the same day put the figure at 35, while a freelance journalist reported the South Sudan army disclosed it buried 65 bodies from Wednesday’s barracks battle.
Media reports on civilian casualties put the number at more than 12, meaning that the combined death toll of civilians and soldiers according to known reports is between 47 and 77, and possibly more.
