At least three passengers died in a grisly road accident after a commercial vehicle they were traveling in overturned in Yirol West County, Lakes State, on Saturday.

Four others sustained injuries in the accident that happened in the Pircok area on the Wau-Juba road.

Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, Police Spokesperson in Lakes State, told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

“There was an incident we registered when a commercial vehicle traveling from Wau to Juba overturned at a place called Pir-cok in Yirol West County,” he said.

He said the wounded were admitted to the Yirol Civil Hospital for treatment while the driver of the ill-fated vehicle was arrested and is helping police with investigations.

“According to information from the eyewitnesses, the cause of the accident could be over-speeding and the road is very dusty. You know very well the road is built very high, and whenever a vehicle loses control, it becomes very easy for it to overturn,” he explained.

Attempts to reach doctors at the Yirol Civil Hospital’s administration for comments on the condition of the accident victims were unsuccessful.
