Thousands of tarps and tools given to IDPs in Yambio

The South Sudan Red Cross (SSRC) supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has distributed thousands of tarpaulins and household tools this week to more than 2,000 displaced families in Yambio, Western Equatoria State.

Since May this year, thousands of people have fled to Yambio as a result of inter-communal violence in the towns of Mundri and Maridi. The Red Cross’ Yambio branch subsequently carried out an assessment to help decide how to help these people.

“The Red Cross has been working with the South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission to register nearly 5,000 people who are receiving emergency kits this week, including clothing, tarpaulins, blankets and hygiene essentials,” said Alison Martin, director of the South Sudan Red Cross branch in Western Equatoria.

ICRC said the distribution of the relief items provided by the ICRC was taking place in the SSRC office in Yambio on Monday and Tuesday.
