Education authorities in SPLA-IO rebel-controlled areas of Unity State say there are many challenges hampering education in the region.

Rebel appointed minister of education in Unity State James Yoach told Radio Tamazuj that many citizens who had sought refuge in displacement camps have returned to their homes, increasing the number of school going children.

He said these children have now been forced to share the little available resources mostly learning under trees.

"We have about 20,000 children who need education. They need schools, books, in general, education materials. They are now learning under trees,” he added.

Yoach called on organizations working on education to support the state in order to promote education in the country.
