‘Thousands flee Blue Nile to seek refuge in Ethiopia’

Sadiq Ali Ibrahim, coordinator of refugees fleeing from Blue Nile state to Ethiopia, said 4,000 displaced people arrived in Camp Sorgali in Ethiopia the past couple of days. He told Radio Tamazuj that thousands more are stranded in the border areas of Geissan in Sudan. Stranded refugees are wandering in the border region and taking shelter under the trees: ‘these people live under severe humanitarian conditions’. Residents of the Blue Nile state are fleeing their villages since September of last year when violent clashes between the Sudanese army and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement North erupted. Ali Ibrahim said every day more displaced people arrive in camp Sorgali coming from Kurmuk and Geissan. 13,000 displaced people are reportedly living in the camp.
