The Catholic Diocese of El-Obeid’s Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Gidel, Nuba Mountains in Sudan’s South Kordofan State, hosted thousands of faithful to celebrate Easter last Sunday.
The main celebrant, Fr. Bashir Adawu, commended the congregation for their steadfast faith and unity in commemorating the resurrection of the Lord.
He emphasized that Jesus transcends mere humanity.
“He is the Divine Son of God sent to liberate mankind from sin,” Fr. Adawu said.
He highlighted how prophets had foretold the coming of the redeemer to save humanity, yet upon Jesus’ arrival, many disregarded his message.
Furthermore, Fr. Adawu urged reflection on the ongoing conflicts in the Nuba Mountains region and other areas plagued by war and internal displacement. He underscored Jesus’ call for contemplation regarding these pressing issues.
The priest emphasized that Christians serve as beacons of light to others, yet they must first illuminate their own lives.
“If we remain in darkness, we will inevitably stray into sin. As internally displaced persons (IDPs) who are devout believers, God will provide for our needs,” he concluded.
The Catholic priest also underscored that Jesus sacrificed himself to emancipate humanity from bondage.
Meanwhile, the SPLM-North representative, Yagoup Kaluka Osman, urged all Christians across the nation to pray fervently for peace and unity.
He advised the community to conserve their limited food supplies in anticipation of impending hunger stemming from the ongoing conflict between the SPLA-North and the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF).
