Thousands of people attended the funeral on Wednesday of Fatima Ahmed Ibrahim, the leader and member of the Sudanese Communist Party who died at the age of 84 in London last week.
The late feminist leader, who was among the first generation of women politicians in Sudan, was born in Khartoum in 1933 and became the first woman to be a Member of Parliament in 1965.
The late communist leader was known for championing women issues in Sudan.
Mourners prevented the country’s First Vice President, Bakri Hassan Saleh, Khartoum governor, Abdel-Rahim Mohammed Hussein and North Kordufan state governor, Ahmed Harun from participating in the funeral in Omdurman.
