Authorities of Mayom County in Unity State say the death toll from last Wednesday’s attack has risen to 17 while those who sustained injuries are 25.

Last Wednesday, when the cattle raid occurred, authorities reported that 12 people had died and 13 were wounded.

However, speaking to Radio Tamazuj last Friday, the state director at the ministry of information and culture, John Kang Bol said five more people succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at the local health facility in Unity State.

“Seven people were taken to Akobo and eight others were taken to Juba for further treatment but en route to Juba one person died on the way. Among the dead are six and ten years old children. There is a likelihood that the numbers of people who die may rise in the coming days,” he added.

More than 200 cattle were stolen in the attack.

The local official further claimed the attack was perpetrated by youths from Warrap State. But Warrap State officials contacted last week could not confirm if the attackers were from Warrap, but promised to launch investigations.
