The government’s failure to pay teachers salaries for the month of February has resulted in cancellation of the school term examinations in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, according to the state education minister.
Many students went unschooled after the teachers went unpaid for several months. Education Minister Kon Deng Chan blamed the National Crisis Management Committee, saying it had declined to instruct the finance ministry to release the salaries.
He told Radio Tamazuj today that the committee was supposed to oversee the disbursement of civil servants’ salaries since the crisis in December 2013.
Chan added that the delay in paying teachers resulted in so many problems in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state that they failed to conduct the first term examination in time.
