Terekeka road ambush leaves one injured

A police officer was critically injured in a road ambush along Juba-Bor road on Thursday afternoon.

According to the victim, Biak Goch hired to provide escort to the vehicle, armed civilians opened fire on the commercial vehicle carrying fuel and goods near Mangala.

“The truck carrying fuel and beds on the route to Bor was hired by Dr. John Garang University. When reaching a placed called Bed-Laku near Mangala, a group of armed men opened fire on the truck and shot me in my arm. I shot back and they run away without taking anything,” he explained.

Goch said the driver was unhurt but he urged the relevant authorities to beef security along the Juba-Bor road.

Meanwhile, Jonglei Police Commissioner Chol Atem confirmed the incident adding the wounded officer will be flown to Juba for treatment.

He further revealed that in another incident armed men ambushed another passenger vehicle traveling to Bor the same afternoon and looted personal belongings, but no one was injured in the incident.
