A squabble between two men from the Ma’di and Dinka yesterday sparked a communal fight in Malakia, a residential area in the town of Nimule in Eastern Equatoria State.

The cause of the fighting between the two men remains unclear, although several sources on the ground say it was sparked by tribal mocking against the Ma’di tribe by members of the Dinka community, who live in the town after being displaced by conflict elsewhere in South Sudan.

According to the sources, several people were injured with some already in the hospital but there were no casualties reported. Police in the area managed to intervene and arrest some of the perpetrators of the fighting, but tensions in the town are still high.
