Tension remains high between the feuding Ma’alia and Rizeigat tribes in Shairia and Kilekel areas of Sudan’s East Darfur State after the deadly inter-communal clashes last weekend.

Unconfirmed reports from the area indicate that government troops are yet to be deployed in the area to prevent the escalation of the conflict despite earlier reports that they were already on the ground.

Al- Sir Tai Al-Sir, a Rizeigat chief, told Radio Tamazuj that there is no single government soldier in the area amid rising tensions.

At least 29 people were reported killed and 45 wounded in clashes between the feuding Rizeigat and Ma'alia tribes last weekend.
