Tension is growing between two communities in Bieh State after two people were killed in a revenge attack on a family in Waat County last month, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, the county commissioner, Isaac Pur Ruot said the rising tension involves the members of Cie-Leek from Wei-Deng area and Cie-Nyakoang of Rim area.
The two rival clans have for years been involved in revenge attacks.
“Tension is very high since December. It started after a man and his wife were ambushed and killed between Rim and Langkien areas,” Pur said.
He added, “No arrest has been made so far, but the suspects have been identified and we are pursuing them. The suspects fled to SPLA-IO areas in Walgak.”
The local official said they are engaging Walgak authorities to secure the arrest of the suspects, but warned against retaliation, insisting that government will resolve the matter.
He said more than 100,000 people, who fled Wei-Deng area to Waat town for fear of revenge, are lacking food and shelter.
