Police officials in Lakes State said that a young man shot himself dead in Rumbek Central County on Monday.

The state acting police spokesperson Moses Machuoc Bol told Radio Tamazuj that the young man used his uncle’s bodyguard’s gun. 

Machuoc said the police have arrested the owner of the gun used for the crime. 

“It was yesterday when a 17-year-old student identified as Manyang Matoch Ruai shot himself dead using a gun of his uncle’s bodyguard. Now, the police have arrested the gun’s owner and the investigation is ongoing,” he said. 

According to the police official, it is unclear why the young man killed himself. 

“My message to the people of Lakes State is to stop committing suicide whenever they have a problem with anybody in the family. Just come and open a case against the person whenever you are not happy with a person,” he pleaded with the residents of Lakes State. 

The police in charge of the investigation, Martin Machiek, confirmed that the postmortem indicated that the victim had bullet wounds in his head and that his family picked the body for burial.
