The Technical Boundary Committee (TBC) has submitted its final report to the East African bloc IGAD on Wednesday.
The regional bloc, which is the mediator of South Sudan’s peace process, announced that it received the final report from the committee.
The TBC, established pursuant to the revitalised peace agreement in South Sudan, was inaugurated on 9 January 2019 and completed its work within 60 days thereafter retreated to compile, validate and publish its final report.
Using 1 January 1956 as a base, the technical bod was expected to list and map the tribal boundaries which are violated by the establishment of 32 states in South Sudan.
Presenting the report to the IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan Ismail Wais, the TBC chairperson confirmed that the report was adopted by consensus pursuant to article 1.15.18.4 of the peace deal.
The TBC was chaired by Ali Gragandi Naeem from Sudan and comprised of experts from Uganda, Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
