Teachers return to Abyei without the training they were promised

Ten teachers from Abyei meant to receive a years' training in Kenya have returned home after getting only as far as Juba.

The teachers were supposed to take a course in advanced training in English. Though Abyei’s secondary schools employ a number of teachers with good English skills from Kenya and Uganda, there is only one local teacher proficient in the language.

However, the ten educators never made it to Kenya so they didn't receive their English training.

Kiir Mijak Biong, from Abyei Secondary School for Boys, said that when they reached Juba they discovered there was no money to take them to Kenya

Another teacher, Achuil Miyen, said he did not know why the Abyei Administrative Area (AAA) had not paid their costs.

AAA director‐general of services Alor Dho El beit said the administration did not send the money to Kenya on time.
