Teachers on strike in Abiemnhom County

Teachers in Abiemnhom County of Unity State have closed the schools and gone on open-ended strike, accusing the state ministry of education of non-compliance with its pledges towards the education staffs.

A number of teachers told Radio Tamazuj that they began striking since yesterday due to lack of commitment of the ministry to resolve teachers’ problems and demands.

Strikers say they presented eight complaints to the ministry of education which include delay of wage payments, promotions, compulsory deduction of an amount monthly by the SPLM State Secretariat, lack of allowances and incentives, management issues, and lack of opportunities for teachers’ training.

One of the teachers stressed that they will continue with strike until their demands are met by the concerned parties in the state.
