Teachers at the Juba Commercial Secondary School Complex protest an eviction plan

More than twenty public secondary school teachers in Juba of Central Equatoria State have submitted a complaint to the education ministry calling for a resolution to a dispute regarding their residential area.

More than twenty public secondary school teachers in Juba of Central Equatoria State have submitted a complaint to the education ministry calling for a resolution to a dispute regarding their residential area.

The teachers residing at the Juba Commercial Secondary School Complex say the state government is planning to evict them from the area.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the former director of Supiri High School and the head of a special committee of resident teachers, Mariella Kafuki, said that the state government had previously allocated the site to them.

Kafuki urged the ministry to intervene by either relocating them to another area or amicably resolving the issue.

Daniel Marco, a teacher living in the complex, told Radio Tamazuj that government authorities have begun to gradually demolish their homes and they are concerned as they have nowhere to go if evicted.

Marco said he has lived in the area since 1976 and they have no means to own or rent houses elsewhere.

Another teacher, Jacinta Malinda, claims that they were told the ministry of education had sold the land to a private investor.
