A primary school teacher has been critically injured in a road ambush carried out by armed bandits in Pochalla County of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) on Tuesday, local officials said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Ochan Ochudho, the county executive director, said the victim identified as Aballa Omot Omot was attacked on the outskirts of Otallo village while on his way to attend a training in the county headquarters, Pochalla town on Tuesday morning.

“The incident took place at around 9 am. The teacher called Aballa Omot Omot was going to Pochalla town for a teachers’ training. While between Otallo and Ajwara villages, he was attacked and injured on one of his legs and arms,” Ochan said.

He pointed out that the teacher is receiving treatment at a health facility in Pochalla town.

The county official blamed the attack on an armed youth group suspected to have come from the neighboring GPAA’s Pibor County.

Major Amati Ochan, the Pochalla police inspector, confirmed the attack and said no one was arrested in connection to the incident.

For his part, David Ngero, a Pibor youth leader, has denied knowledge of the incident.
